3rd MK Companies' Tournament Announced

An Oakgrove player turning towards the post, under pressure from an opponent.

This year's companies' tournament is again raising funds for the Milton Keynes Community Foundation's Heart Appeal. Every £1 raised will be matched by the Government. The Foundation then provides grant funding to a diverse number of excellent causes in the City.

This year we are opening up the event to community groups and to parish council's. More people, more fun, more vital money for a great cause.

The venue is again Loughton Sports & Social Club. Matches will run from 6pm to 8.30pm. There will be a short introductory session at 5.30pm.

MKX: the Future

KS2 champions Great Horwood school being presented with their trophy by England player Charlie Vogwill and his Norwich Knights team-mate Joe Stirling.

Thanks to a sizeable grant of the National Hockey Foundation and the support of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, youth korfball in MK is set to take huge steps forward.

Starting in April 2010 we will be delivering a 3 year programme through MKX to train teachers and voulnteers in schools to be able to deliver korfball in the curriculum and at after school clubs.

We are currently working on a new Vision for youth korfball in MK and a Blueprint (what youth korfball will look like in 3 years) and we will then outline the steps to get us there. We will publish these shortly but initial thoughts will see korfball on the curriculum of most secondary and primary schools, that this will support and enthuse young people to join a number of after and out of school clubs, that coaching standards will rise considerably and our teams compete in a local youth league and perform well at national level.

Korfball is a great sport. It will only go forward if we invest in young people, give them opportunities to compete and most importantly to have fun in a safe and developmental environment. This is what we will be doing with MKX.

If you want to be part of MKX as a player, a parent-helper, a coach or a volunteer - please do get in touch.

Best wishes DARREN Chair of MK City Director of MKX
