U11s Go To Ely

On 28th February our Under 11 side will go to play in a tournament in Ely.

The team will meet at 9.45am at Shenley Brook End School and will return by 6.30pm.

All players will need a signed consent form and will have to leave an emergency contact number.

The cost of the trip is £10 per player.

We are going in a minibus. As some players are going by car, there may be some spaces for parents to accompany the team in the minibus.

This will be a great tournament. The team has been training hard and we have quite a few excellent players.

There is no training at Courtside on 18th February - but we are back there on 25th February. Can all players try to attend, so we can prepare properly for Ely.

Thanks DARREN

MKX: the Future

KS2 champions Great Horwood school being presented with their trophy by England player Charlie Vogwill and his Norwich Knights team-mate Joe Stirling.

Thanks to a sizeable grant of the National Hockey Foundation and the support of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, youth korfball in MK is set to take huge steps forward.

Starting in April 2010 we will be delivering a 3 year programme through MKX to train teachers and voulnteers in schools to be able to deliver korfball in the curriculum and at after school clubs.

We are currently working on a new Vision for youth korfball in MK and a Blueprint (what youth korfball will look like in 3 years) and we will then outline the steps to get us there. We will publish these shortly but initial thoughts will see korfball on the curriculum of most secondary and primary schools, that this will support and enthuse young people to join a number of after and out of school clubs, that coaching standards will rise considerably and our teams compete in a local youth league and perform well at national level.

Korfball is a great sport. It will only go forward if we invest in young people, give them opportunities to compete and most importantly to have fun in a safe and developmental environment. This is what we will be doing with MKX.

If you want to be part of MKX as a player, a parent-helper, a coach or a volunteer - please do get in touch.

Best wishes DARREN Chair of MK City Director of MKX

Train With England

On Saturday 27th February we are priviledged to have several full England International players and coaches coming to Milton Keynes to train our adults and juniors.

The session for adults is at Woughton Leisure Centre from 11am to 1pm. The junior session follows at 1.30pm to 3pm.

The sessions are free. Please contact Darren if you are interested in taking part.

Korfball in MK will always be fun - we want the standards at the top end to rise though. This is an excellent chance to do that.

Snow! Fun and pretty, but may reduce korf

Status report from a snowy New Year!

Alas, the wonderfully wintry weather has taken its toll on the korfball calendar in Milton Keynes. MK Roos, Wallabies and MKX lost out on their training sessions last week, MK Colossus look at risk for this evening, and all SMKA and OKA league matches this weekend were postponed- meaning disruption for MK Colossus, two MK Bucks sides, and MK City.

Walton Rogues returned to training last week, but a scheduled hall closure has left them without training this week and looking for an alternative venue for next week; they are taking this opportunity to get their affairs in order with an impromptu general meeting.

Hopefully, it'll be back to business as usual (not to make it sound like too much of a chore!) before you know it!

New Year New Sport – Take up Korfball

An MKC Development player being hindered near the post.

Looking for a new sport to play? Want to play in a team, or meet new people, or are you on a New Years fitness drive? Korfball is one of MK’s fastest growing sports, with four adult clubs, a youth team “MKX”, a 10-team local league if you want to play matches, winter and summer training, tournaments and a great social scene! It’s indoors in winter so less likely to be disrupted by weather than outdoor sports and less cold! And because it’s played by mixed-sex teams, all men and women can join the fun.

All clubs offer up to two sessions for free so you’ve got nothing to lose if you want to give the sport a try! Don’t worry if you’ve never played before, all the clubs are set up to offer beginner coaching and teach you all you need to know, and all you need is normal sports kit and trainers.

Choose a club…..

  • MK Colossus train on a Monday night in Bletchley at 6:15pm

  • MK Roos train on a Wednesday night in Shenley Brook End at 7:30pm
  • MK Bucks train on a Thursday night in Bletchley at 8:30pm
